Arthur Gain is teaching his award-winning method of painting with oils in a single sitting. In this course, you will learn how to paint alla prima with confidence using his “Squint-Paint-Repeat” approach.
You will learn:
How to organize your process to create successful alla prima paintings, and how to use tools and materials efficiently
1
How to avoid common mistakes and obstacles, saving time to express your artistic vision in the most direct way.
2
How to find the balance between a loose, painterly style and a solid drawing foundation, while maintaining coherent values and color representation
3
Color theory, different harmonies (and how to achieve them) and the power of limited palettes.
4
How to simplify what we see to create a visually compelling composition.
5
6
How to apply the method to any subject matter: portrait, figure, still life and landscape
Welcome to totally new curriculum, a fresh approach, and a deeper dive into expressive alla prima painting! 🎨This season we embrace the color and light as well as juicy painterly edges and “happy accidents”.
We’ll build on everything we’ve learned before while introducing new creative methods, tools, and ways of seeing and painting. Specifically designed short practice efforts as well as theory of oil painting in daily uploads each week from Monday to Thursday.
And as before, to crown the week’s effort, Saturday sessions with live models.
Some of daily demos and assignments will be offered in two versions—Basic and Advanced—so you can work at your own level or push yourself into a deeper immersion in the method.
Expect new tools, more colors, more experimentation, and much more fun! :)
